The Design Manager 1 is responsible for the oversight, administration, scheduling, approvals, and reporting of the subcontracted professional services firm(s) along with internal engineering staff. Responsibilities include coordination with the Materials, Construction, Permitting and GIS Teams to ensure Documentation & Deliverables are complete and accurate.

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and located at the Detroit (Canton) Michigan Metro Area Office.

Major Job Elements:

  • Ensure engineering/design activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule
  • Coordinate efforts across subcontractor platforms to ensure compatibility and integration of systems
  • Provide technical support for construction, including participation in construction planning sessions
  • Support the development or acquisition of applications to facilitate field reporting, as-builds, records reporting including inspections, bills of materials, and progress tracking
  • Assist in the development and implementation of field computer applications to facilitate the control and collection of data for mapping (gps)(gis)(kmz)
  • Coordinate with the professional services firm(s) to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables are compatible with client's requirements


  • Minimum five years of project experience. Two (+) years in telecom preferred
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technologies, or Construction Management preferred. Relevant project field experience may be substituted for education
  • Must have computer skills in MS Office programs, field applications for surveying and data management
  • Have a high level of written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & OSP record data base applications
  • Ability to perform field site meets; meet with developers, customers, local agencies
  • Fiber/Copper management and Fiber Design Along with Associated Splice Documentation
  • Existing Construction experience
  • Skilled with ESRI ArcGIS (Online), Autodesk, AutoCAD, KMZ
