Surgical Technologist Location (On-site, Remote, or Hybrid?):
Detroit, MI (onsite) Contract Duration: 13 weeks Work Hours:
6am-2:30pm, 6am-4:30pm, or 6am-6:30pm Total Weekly Hours: 40
Duties: Under direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and
Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of surgical
instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during general to
moderately complex surgical procedures. Ensures understanding of
the assigned surgical procedures being performed and anticipates
the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team members. Also
provides service support related to patient preparation, patient
transport, and assisting surgical care team with specific patient
care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. Responds to emergent
situations according to established procedures. PRINCIPLE DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 1. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of
advanced surgical techniques 2. Scrubs on complex surgical
procedures such as: a. Liver & Multi-visceral Organ Transplants b.
Endovascular Valve Replacement and/or Aneurysm Repair, TeVAR, FeVAR
c. Cardiac Surgical Team Membership d. Ability to scrub cases
involving Cardiopulmonary Bypass e. HIPEC 3. Demonstrates critical
thinking skills in relation to anticipating the perioperative needs
of the patient and surgeon. 4. Prepares the operating room by
setting table, instruments and supplies according to type of
surgery. 5. Assures proper functioning of instruments and equipment
prior to use and reports needed repairs appropriately. 6. Follows
established departmental policies and procedures, objectives,
quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection
control standards, and reports and corrects non-compliance. 7.
Displays cost-consciousness in the opening of sterile supplies and
in the care and handling of surgical instruments. 8. May assist RN
in admitting, transferring, and discharging patients in the OR 9.
May assist RN in positioning and prepping patients 10.Maintains a
safe and clean room environment; keeps room free from clutter,
cleans and stocks rooms, returns equipment and supplies to
designated storage locations, helps maintain cleanliness of
assigned areas. 11.Provides comfort and support for pre-operative
patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient s care and
privacy. 12.Exhibits a higher level of collaboration with peers in
making decisions related to surgical patient care. 13.Responds to
emergent situations according to established procedures and
communicates in collaboration with the surgical team 14. Maintains
established departmental policies and procedures, objectives,
quality assurance program, safety, environment standards. 15.
Actively participates in the shared governance/process to promote
team practice. 16. Supports administrative and unit governance
changes to job role and unit operations. 17. Participates in
discussions with the Unit Manager/Supervisor regarding job
enrichment and career progression. 18. Completes required education
in a timely manner and participates in on-going department specific
educational programs. 19. Trains/precepts new employees and
students in accordance with assigned orientation/curriculum 20.
Actively participates in audit monitors and department task forces.
21. Recognizes and participates in continuing education. 22.
Performs other duties as assigned. Skills:
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current BLS certification
required or become BLS certified within one month of start date.
Surgical Technologist certification required or 3-5 years of
experience supporting complex high acuity surgical volume, as
defined above, in lieu of a certification. Must meet or exceed core

Technology ProgramSpecific knowledge of surgical procedures within
the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical
procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and
assisting surgeons in the O.R. Schedule Notes: Senior Surgical
Technologist - CVOR Certification: BLS Must Have: Cardiac Scrub
experience, Block Schedule: Yes On-Call: Yes (48 hours of call per
six week schedule. Must be available 1 weekend per month)
